Guido is a physician by training, but a scientist by heart. After a 4 years as a research fellow at the University of Michigan, he obtained a PhD at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL). Since 2011 he is Chercheur qualifié of the FNRS and Assistant Professor at UCL. He is trying to run his lab, which means that he tries to contribute with ideas and solutions to the progress of projects without driving people completely crazy.
The focus of his team is to combine genetic approaches and state-of-the-art analytical approaches to shed light on some dark alleys of cellular metabolism. While many projects start with a hypothesis in the field of cancer metabolism, the team follows the stream of evidence into diverse areas of human biology.
Recently, this has led to the discovery of the biogenesis of novel post-translational modifications involved in neuromuscular diseases (i.e. ribitolphosphorylation) and Parkinson's disease (i.e. N-glyceroylation and N-phosphoglyceroylation).
